My clients and I work together to set SMART goals ~ Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Timely. Keep this in mind when looking toward setting any sort of goal for yourself. So, if "lose weight" is a goal, make it SMART. Here's an example ~ "Lose 10 pounds of body fat in 8 weeks." Or, "Reduce my waist measurement by 2 inches over the next 10 weeks." Now the goal is specific, measurable, attainable, relevant to the original goal, and timely. Then you fill in the actions you'll take that will enable you to reach that goal!
